3 New Year’s Resolutions for your skin in 2023

Happy New Year! With 2022 firmly in the rear view mirror, it’s time to start thinking about a few of the promises you can make to yourself in 2023. So, whether it’s the promise of getting to the gym, practising some mindfulness techniques or improving your skincare routine, each promise has to be a goal worth fulfilling if you hope to keep it.

So, here at AP Skincare, we’re here to help with the latter of those promises by providing you with our top 3 New Year’s Resolutions for your skin in 2023.

1.) Keep it simple

When it comes to your skincare routine, it’s often best to keep it easy and to a minimum. All too often people will over-do their routine (whether that’s washing, peeling, exfoliating and so on) trying to get that celebrity standard skin look. However, too many active ingredients can disrupt your skins natural barrier and actually make it look worse. Hydroxy acids and retinol are perfect examples of ingredients that can cause severe harm to your skin if used in excess, so it’s best to consult a professional (like one of our talented team members!) Before opting for these products.

2.) Look for products that contain a good level of Vitamin C

Regardless of your skin type, whether it’s normal, oily or dry, a healthy dose of Vitamin C can do wonders for your skin. It’s an extremely effective antioxidant, and works particularly well when used alongside a morning SPF lotion. The great thing about Vitamin C is that you can incorporate it into your morning routine in a variety of different ways. For instance, you can apply it directly to your skin through topical ointments, or leave it out of your skincare routine completely and just enjoy it as a part of your diet! Speaking of which…

3.) Eat more foods which are kind to your skin

Well, looks like we’ll be helping you to get that New Year’s diet on track after all! It’s fair to say that most of us tend to let loose a bit over the Christmas period – whether it’s through excessive eating, drinking or generally lowering the nutritional content of the foods we enjoy over this period, we all like a bit of festive indulgence in the name of celebration.

However, this sort of diet can leave you looking tired and a bit sallow once January comes around. So, swap out the naughty treats for vitamin rich fruits and vegetables – brightly coloured fruits and vegetables work best in the deeper layers of your skin to protect from collagen ultraviolet light, whereas darker fruits and veg tend to be more rich in antioxidants. As a fun way of getting your vitamins in – you can always add cucumber, lemon or mint to your water to add a bit of extra flavour! So, if you get a few weeks into 2023 and find that despite your best efforts, you’re still not getting the results you want for your skin, we can help. If you’d like to find out more about what it can do for your skin specifically, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our clinicians here at AP Skincare.
