3 Top Tips To Keeping Your Skin Fresh In Your 30s

Things change when you get to 30. It’s not a fact many of us like to face, but it’s true! It can be tempting to continue your normal skincare routine, but as your body undergoes changes, when it comes right down to it, your skincare routine will need to adapt to keep up. Stress and hormonal swings can start to become a major factor on your skin, and that’s not to mention what effects pregnancy can have! Don’t worry though – here at AP Skincare, we’ve got a couple of basic tips to help you stay on top of your skincare in your 30s, so you’re looking as radiant and beautiful as ever!

1. Switch Up Your Routine With Hydrating Toner

During pregnancy in your 30s, your skin can lose moisture more easily. What’s happening is that a specific hormone called progesterone is dilating your blood vessels, heightening your skin’s sensitivity. By the way, this is the source of the reputed ‘pregnancy glow’ – although obviously it doesn’t always seem to feel like that! On the other hand, even if you’re not pregnant you can find yourself at risk of rosacea from stress, exercise, or diet. For this reason alone, it’s best to align your skincare routine with the most soothing options, maximising your skin’s moisture with hydrating toners.

2. Chemically Exfoliate Twice A Week

This next bit of advice is a lot to do with your skin cell turnover rate. Essentially, your skin is constantly generating new cells to replace any that die. This process involves the youngest cells travelling up through the lowest level of the epidermis, all the way up to the top layer, where they die and shed off to reveal healthier, glowing skin. Now, your skin cell turnover rate notably starts to slow as you move into your 30s, which means your skin is slower to renew itself.

Chemical exfoliation is an excellent way to encourage this process. Though it’s understandable that you might be wary of overdoing it, it’s best to do it twice a week. In this way, mild chemical exfoliation actually normalises your skin’s moisture barrier, so it’s better able to hold water, and boosts your skin cell renewal rate as a result. And speaking of renewal rates…

3. Retinoids Enhance Your Skin’s Collagen Production

We’ve previously talked in depth on the blog about how vital collagen is to our skin, but if you’re short on time, we’ll quote from it directly – it literally holds our bodies together. It’s in our bones, joints and organs, and naturally it’s a major component in our skin too. However, once we move into our 30s our collagen production gradually starts to decrease, resulting in weaker connections in the skin. Amongst other things, this affects its elasticity, making us more prone to wrinkles. To keep your skin looking plump and youthful into your 30s, therefore, retinoids are your go-to option. In fact, we’ve got several famously effective retinoid products here at AP Skincare; found within our Retriderm range.

With its clinically proven formula infused with collagen, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E, our Retriderm range has been consistently found to actively boost your collagen production. However, it’s also known as a uniquely powerful solution, so it’s best to start with the milder option (our 0.5% solution) and if necessary, work your way gradually up to 1%.
