5 simple ways to detoxify your skin

It doesn’t take long for pollutants, bacteria, and dead skin cells to accumulate on your skin, which is why regular detoxes are essential. By removing these irritants, you can reduce the risk of breakouts and blemishes, and enjoy healthier skin. To learn more, let’s take a look at these five simple ways to detox your skin!

1. Cleanse twice daily

Before you begin any type of skincare treatment, be sure you’re getting the basics right. Cleansing your skin in the morning and at night removes dirt and grime that accumulates on the skin and helps to stop it from settling in the pores. Choosing an oil-based cleanser can even help to keep dry skin hydrated.

2. Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation ensures that dead skin cells and debris are removed from the skin. As well as keeping your skin clean and clear, this also helps to remove patches of flaky skin. If you’re wearing foundation or concealer, exfoliating in advance also makes it easier to apply and creates a smooth, silky complexion.

Although exfoliation can be a great way to detox your skin, don’t overdo it. Exfoliating just once or twice a week is appropriate for most skin types, otherwise, you risk drying your skin out.

3. Steam

When your skin is exposed to steam, it opens your pores and allows bacteria and debris to be removed more easily. Some showers have a steam setting, which makes it easy to detox your skin in this way.

Alternatively, you can use a facial steamer or simply fill a bowl with hot water and drape a towel over your head to direct the steam towards your face. However, never use boiling water to steam, as this could cause burns or discomfort.

4. Prioritise sleep

If you’ve ever noticed that your skin looks more dull or lacklustre after a restless night, you’ll know just how important sleep is when it comes to your skin. Our bodies repair and regenerate cells when we’re sleeping, which means this process is slowed down if you don’t get enough rest. As the largest organ in the human body, our skin does a fabulous job of detoxing and repairing itself, providing we give it the opportunity. By getting more sleep, you can facilitate the skin’s natural detoxing process.

5. Clay mask

Clay face masks can remove impurities from the skin and leave your face looking brighter and healthier. In addition to this, clay masks are an effective way to balance your skin. They remove excess oil, which can help to reduce breakouts, without causing dryness. Used once or twice a week, clay masks can help to keep your skin free from a build-up of grime, bacteria, and dead skin cells.

When to detox your skin

The process of drawing out impurities or toxins can sometimes cause your skin to look a little red straight after a detox, so this isn’t something you’ll want to do right before a special occasion. Instead, detox your skin when you’ve got time to pamper it with hydrating moisturiser or serums afterwards. This helps to replace essential nutrients and will leave your skin looking better and healthier than ever.
