Dentist sign ups at an all time high
Recent figures have revealed just how important dental care has become. According to the latest statistics, 4.9 million people, a staggering 91% of the population, are now registered with an NHS Dentist. In fact, the bi-annual trip to the dentist has never been so in fashion! With the prominence of the Sugar Tax, better education at home and in schools, and initiatives like National Smile Month, it’s no wonder people are beginning to put their dental health first and visit their dentist. So, if you haven’t already signed up, what are you waiting for? If you’re looking for the best NHS dentist Blackburn has to offer, give us a call at AP Smilecare…
2016’s statistics see dental sign ups rocket
Dental sign ups have been growing over the last few years but it’s only in 2016 that they’ve reached their peak. Now, 91% of the population have signed up to a local dentist, but in 2015 only 89% had and in 2007 just 52%. What’s more, people are making the effort to see their dentist too with 72% of those registered (3.5 million) having seen their NHS dentist at least once in the past two years. This is up from 2.5 million in 2007.
One of the big reasons behind this rise in dentist sign ups is the change in rules for registrations. Prior to April 2006, patient registrations lapsed if a patient failed to visit their dentist in a 15 month period. This meant many patients became de-registered and no longer had easy access to dental care. Since 2010, however, a ‘lifetime registration’ was introduced – meaning a person would remain registered with their dentist whether they were making appointments or not. Thankfully, looking at the latest data, it appears that people are now making the most of their NHS dentist too – making sure to schedule regular check-ups.
