FAQs for Quick Straight Teeth

Is it comfortable?

If you had friends with traditional ‘train track’ braces when you were younger, you might remember the discomfort they used to talk about – especially whenever they had their wires tightened. However, with QST treatments the discomfort really isn’t that bad. It will take time to adjust and get used to, but after this period you won’t even notice they’re there!

Are there restrictions on what I can eat during treatment?

No! QST braces allow you to continue with your day-to-day life and diet. There are no restrictions as to what you can and cannot eat. However, once fitted, there will be a little sensitivity and so caution should be taken when eating ‘hard’ foods. For the first few days you might want to stick to things like soup, potato, flaky fish, and so on…

How often do I need to wear my aligners?

You need to wear your aligners at all times during treatment – apart from when eating, brushing and flossing. Ideally, they should be worn for 20 hours a day, every day. While it may be tempting to take them off, do remember this will significantly impact the overall results.

Will the treatment affect my speech?

Most patients report little or no effect on their speech during treatment. However, you may find an initial adjustment period associated with having something new in your mouth.

Can I smoke while wearing the braces?

It is strongly advisable that you don’t smoke while wearing the aligners as this can cause staining and discoloration to your retainers. What’s more, smoking is known to cause long-term damage to your teeth and gums – not ideal when you’ve gone to the effort of getting your teeth straightened!

How long does QST treatment last?

The length of treatment will depend on the complexity of the treatment and your personal needs. The average treatment time is 2-4 months, however you will be given an estimation after a consultation. If you’re planning on correcting your teeth ahead of a special occasion, such as a wedding, we do recommend getting in touch sooner, rather than later, to ensure you have enough time to get maximal results.

How often do I need to see my dentist once I begin treatment?

This will depend entirely on the products used during your treatment. On average patients have a check-up very 2-4 weeks.
