Switch Your Skincare Routine From Winter To Spring

The sun has finally got his hat on, and springtime is here! We’ve already been seeing some lovely weather here in Blackburn, and who doesn’t love a bit of proper sunshine. It does mean, though, that it’s a good idea to switch up your skincare routine accordingly. Our skin reacts differently in springtime than it does in winter, so we’ve got a few tips to help you make the transition smoothly!

Get Rid Of Dry Old Winter Skin

Winter really does a number on our skin. Sure, there are upsides for us – like fireworks, mulled wine and Christmas presents – but the harsh winds and cold weather mean that our skin can get dry and dull (mostly due to a lack of moisture in the air). People with drier skin especially might notice that their skin looks less than great due to a buildup of dead skin cells. Meanwhile, those with oilier skin might find that their skin becomes even oilier, with uneven dry patches.

Good news first – we’ve got a fantastic treatment for that right here in our Blackburn skincare clinic. Our chemical peel treatment re-energises your skin, leaving it looking youthful and revitalised. It’s the perfect way to kick off your springtime skincare.

Moisturising And Exfoliating

Before you get started, our first bit of advice is to swap your winter moisturiser for something a little lighter. Our skin holds more water in the spring and summer so you won’t need to (literally) lay it on quite so thickly.

When it comes to exfoliation meanwhile, you might have heard that it’s better to lay off it a bit when the weather gets warmer. Not the case! Exfoliation helps to rid your skin of any dry, rough layers left over from winter by sloughing off dead skin and unblocking your pores. If you find you’re experiencing pain or redness it might be worth just adjusting your technique a little – remember, the gentle touch is best, which means no harsh scrubbing. Keep doing this regularly to help your skin stay refreshed, preventing another buildup of dead skin cells.

Keep Your Skin Protected

As ever, suns protection is massively important (so much so that we have a whole range of products dedicated to exactly that). It’s pretty vital all year round, but especially so once the weather starts to properly heat up, as you can get burned more easily than you think. We’d recommend SPF 50 to be on the safe side, whether you’re incorporating it into your moisturiser, your foundation, or applying it to your skin in a separate step.

Staying hydrated is obviously key. Thankfully, that’s pretty easy to do by bathing and drinking lots of water throughout the season. Finally, have a little spring clean of your bathroom. Throw out anything that’s over six months old. Older products are great hosts for a bunch of nasty bacteria. They’re by no means deadly, but they can counter the product’s good effects, leading to clogged pores and dull skin.

As we mentioned in our blog last week, your exact skincare routine depend on you, but these are just some general tips to make sure you’re ready for the spring and summer sunshine!
