The 8 most common questions we’re asked about dental veneers

Here at AP Smilecare, we offer a variety of dental treatments such as braces, implants, dentures, teeth whitening and veneers. Listed below are the 8 most common questions we are asked about veneers to help you choose which cosmetic dentistry option is right for you.

What are veneers?

Having veneers fitted is a type of cosmetic dentistry that involves bonding porcelain tooth covers to the front of the teeth. They are like a thin shell that is custom-made to specifically fit the patient’s own teeth.

What are the benefits of having veneers?

There are many benefits to having veneers. These include mainly covering cosmetic issues such as tooth staining on the natural teeth, yellowing from loss of enamel, covering chips and gaps, making your smile straighter as well as protecting your teeth from needing further treatment such as crowns.

Will they damage my teeth?

We use modern techniques which use as little preparation as possible to enable us to fit your veneers. This ensures your teeth maintain their health behind the veneers and prevents future problems from arising.

How many veneers do I need?

You can have as many veneers fitted as you want but 4 at the front is usually a good place to start.

Will they look natural?

Many of our patients worry about having teeth that look too “perfect” or “fake”. At AP Smilecare, you can actually choose the level of transparency the veneers have, so whether you want natural beautiful-looking teeth or a total Hollywood smile makeover, the choice is totally up to you.

How long do they last?

Veneers are a long-term solution for your smile as using modern technology and dentistry techniques, you will retain smile-confidence for up to 20 years!

Can I eat what I want with veneers or will they get stained?

Veneers are highly polishable so they will not get stained. Your dentist will advise you on proper care and may tell you to avoid certain foods to ensure they do not get chipped, but they are designed with your quality of life in mind.

What do I do if one of my veneers gets chipped?

Veneers can’t be repaired so your dentist will advise you on replacement costs in the rare event of this happening. Properly cared for veneers are very unlikely to suffer damage and your dentist will give you instructions so that this can be avoided.

Why get them done here when I can get them cheaper abroad?

Cheaper prices often don’t equate to good service. Unfortunately, many people who choose these options end up with a much lower quality dental treatment and often these people end up coming to us for their veneers to be fixed and with far more damage to the teeth behind.
