Our Top Autumn Skincare Tips
As you might be able to tell from the weather, it’s finally time to start saying goodbye to summer! On the bright side (pardon the pun) it’s not quite winter yet though, which makes autumn a perfect time to prepare your skin. This week on the blog, we’ve got a couple of suggestions on the best way to do it.
Don’t forget your autumn skincare essentials:
- Sunscreen
- Moisturiser
- Toner
- Exfoliator
…and now here’s how to use them effectively!
Switch Things Up A Bit
No matter what your skin type, it’s important to remember that your skin has changing needs throughout the seasons, so it’s important to account for them! As autumn begins, it’s a good idea to switch from gels and lotion to smoother, thicker creams. These provide a stronger oily barrier for your skin, which you’ll be thankful for now that your skin will become drier a lot more easily with less moisture in the air. Similarly, summer fruits shower gels are a wonderful summer treat, but break out the creamy body wash to give your skin proper protection.
Make Sure To Stay Hydrated
Now that the air is colder, you’ll need to make time to moisturise every single day. Trust us on this one! Your skin is prone to drying and cracking more easily in the colder months, so if you really want to fight off dry skin then moisturising every day is essential. Apart from being useful for the oncoming weather, it’s also useful for taking the edge off any damage your skin might have suffered during the summer months; overexposure to the sun or hot climate, for example, can dehydrate it just as effectively as cool air can.
In fact, to make things even easier for yourself it’s a good plan to just moisturise while you cleanse. A creamy, non-clogging cleanser will add extra moisture and keep your skin smooth and hydrated, no matter what the climate might have in store for you!
Don’t Forget To Exfoliate!
Exfoliation is always a key step to any successful skincare routine, and when it comes to autumn skincare tips, oil-based scrubs are definitely the way to go. As they exfoliate and hydrate you all at once, you can get the benefits of both without having to worry about how to combine separate skincare products. Also – be gentle! You don’t necessarily need to scrub your skin to keep it clean. Instead, to effectively slough off dead skin cells and leave the skin silky smooth, it’s key to regularly exfoliate using mildly acidic, natural formulations.
A few final tips – staying fit and eating well are two frequently underestimated elements to keeping your skin looking and feeling amazing, but they’re honestly crucial. Take a trip to the gym occasionally, or go running in the mornings. Meanwhile, make sure to eat healthy meals that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids – so that means things like fish, walnuts, flax seed, soybeans and tofu – as well as anything rich in vitamins A, C and E – which includes cheese, eggs, yoghurt, oranges, red peppers, strawberries and almonds.
