What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are one of our most popular skincare treatments here at AP Skincare – and considering their many benefits, it’s not hard to see why. Ideal for ageing skin, chemical peels are one of the least invasive treatments you can choose. It’s also a popular post-holiday treatment, rejuvenating sun-damaged skin and helping you to get back that gorgeous healthy glow.

With any treatment, it’s a good idea to understand what it involves, how it works and the benefits, before committing to it. This way, you can ensure the treatment is 100% right for you.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel is essentially a skin rejuvenating solution that gently polishes and resurfaces the skin, by removing the top layers. Our chemical peels use natural acids, found in fruit, sugars and plant extracts, to bring your skin back to full health. The ingredients work together to cleanse, decongest and hydrate the skin – which is why chemical peels work for so many skin types.

When the solution is applied to your skin, new skin regeneration is stimulated. At the same time, problem skin can be tackled too, including acne and rosacea, as the acid solution works on the skin’s dermis.

The main reason you can expect such good results from a chemical peel is because of its deep penetration. Unlike regular facials, which work on the top layers of the skin, chemical peels soak deeper into the skin in the active dermal layer. This is where the magic happens.

What is the process of a chemical peel?

At AP Skincare, we tailor every chemical peel to skin type – ensuring the perfect skincare solution for you. We’ll carry out a full clinical facial analysis and then prescribe you with treatments to use for one month prior to your chemical peel. These treatments will activate your skin and allow you to get the most out of the treatment once you have it.

On the day of the treatment, we’ll apply the chemical solution to your skin as you relax and soak up all the benefits. The whole process takes around 30 minutes and is completely safe. All you’ll feel is a slight tingling sensation – which is the acid solution working its magic!

Post-treatment, your skin may be a little red, but this will calm down within a few hours and you’ll notice the results the same day.

What are the benefits of chemical peels?

After just one chemical peel, you’ll notice a huge difference to your skin and boast a post-peel glow. Best of all, the treatment continues to work days after, stimulating your skin to get into shape.

Clinical chemical peels can also help with a wide range of skin conditions, including:

Of course, as with all treatments, consistency is key. While you’ll notice a difference after just one treatment, a course of four to six will ensure maximum benefit. After each treatment, your skin will receive a boost and be further stimulated and regenerated. Over time, this will increase collagen, required for that full and youthful look, as well as hydration, essential for glowing, dewy skin.
