What are dental implants?
Have you lost or damaged any of your teeth? If yes, our dental implants were designed to help you. As one of our most popular services, our dental implants were designed to restore your confidence and bring your smile back by replacing any gaps with new teeth.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is used to support one or more false teeth and required due to missing teeth. From something simple such as loosing a tooth due to a fall or accident, to loosing teeth due to dental damage, dental implants can be used to remedy almost any situation where teeth have been lost. If the condition of your jaw is good, and there’s enough bone there, implants will be able to be placed with ease.
Essentially, a dental implant is a titanium screw that can replace the root of a tooth when it fails. Just like a tooth root, it is placed into the jawbone. Depending on your needs and how many teeth need replacing you can opt for a single tooth implant, implant retained bridge, or implant retained denture. The process itself varies in length, but the team will give you a detailed timetable before the work proceeds.
The result? Not only a full smile that looks 100% natural, but also a proper-functioning bite and your facial structure and support back again.
Are they safe?
Implants are a safe, well-established treatment and much like natural teeth they will last for as long as you care for them. Of course, choosing the right provider will always ensure your safety. At AP Smilecare you can trust our resident Oral surgeon Kishore, who brings years’ of experience to the job.
Sedation will be offered to those that are nervous about the treatment – but it’s not required. During the whole process you’ll be completely aware of what is taking place, right from your initial consultation through to your aftercare.
Of course, how well you look after your implants is also important in their longevity. As part of your aftercare we’ll organise regular maintenance appointments to ensure they last, and give out proper aftercare information to help you care for your new teeth.
If you want to find out a little more about the aftercare process and what’s involved, you can read our blog article here.
What happens if I don’t look after them?
If you don’t look after your implants they’ll develop a coating similar to that which you get on neglected natural teeth. Left untreated, this can lead to gum infections, bleeding, soreness and general discomfort – all problems with natural teeth.
While you’ll have very specific aftercare instructions for the first week or so, after that it’s just about keeping up a good dental care routine.
