What’s the cost of getting a dental implant?
Dental implants make up one of our core dentistry treatments here at AP Smilecare, so as you can imagine, we get the question about cost quite a lot! Also one we hear every so often is “why are dental implants so expensive?” Well, it’s true that you’re probably not going to be able to finance one with pocket change, but the truth is that these days, good-quality dental implant treatments are more affordable than ever. You see, there are several stages to the treatment, each with its own separate cost. This week, we thought we’d give you a broad overview of them!
The planning stages
It’s not something every dentist in Blackburn does, but here at AP Smilecare we can start you off with a free consultation with one of our dental specialists. This way, we can assess your options for treatment, which includes choosing the right dental implants for you. We’ll explain what the treatment involves, and take the time to answer any questions from you. This includes any about cost!
Once we’ve discussed the cost of the treatment with you and you’re happy to go ahead, we can then arranging procedures like CT scans, X-rays or impressions of your jaw to be replicated in plaster.
The dental implant procedure
The surgery itself is carried out in several stages over the course of months, but we’ll just sum it up in this post for the sake of brevity. (If you’re curious, here are the full details of what’s involved in a dental implant treatment.) First, the single titanium root is secured to the jaw. After that, our dental professionals will create the gum contour to ensure that the new tooth is properly centred. The healing process from this usually takes several months. Once it’s complete, your dentist will finally restore the crown (the visible part of your tooth) on the top of your dental implant. The procedures and equipment for the surgery are generally quite specialised, which is generally reflected in the cost of the treatment.
The components of the dental implant
Speaking of specialised equipment, the components of the dental implant itself are all very finely engineered, too – sometimes far more so than other dental equipment.
A dental implant is made up of:
- The titanium implant which is placed into your jaw, It’s a precision-made piece of engineering, manufactured down to Micron accuracy (a thousandth of a millimetre).
- The abutment that screws into the top of the dental implant
- The precision screw (made of gold), which attaches the abutment to the titanium
- The crown, bridge or denture which affixes over the top of it
For those who suffer with particularly acute dental anxiety, dental sedation may also be an option you want to consider. When you consider all this together with the time of the dentist, implant surgeon and dental technician, you’ll see how it’s all reflected in the cost of dental implants!
